Hutchinson man arrested on suspicion of assault with deadly weapon
A Hutchinson man is facing multiple felony counts following a domestic violence incident in which shots were allegedly fired.
Police responded at around 10:40 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of North Monroe Street to a report of gunshots.
The victim told police she had a physical altercation with Dakota Beckham, 24, who held her in a bedroom and would allow her to leave the room for about five minutes, according to an arrest affidavit read by Magistrate Daniel Gilligan in court on Monday. .
After she managed to escape, she said Beckham pulled a gun on her from the porch of the house, then pointed it at her through the rear window of a vehicle to stop her from driving away.
He left the scene with the woman’s phone, wallet and zippered pouch. Officers recovered a 9mm handgun and the woman’s belongings during Beckham’s arrest, the affidavit states.
Police sentenced Beckham to jail on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony restraint, domestic battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm in the city and criminal deprivation of property.
Gilligan has scheduled a status hearing for 9:30 a.m. on August 8. Beckham remained in jail on Monday with bonds totaling $6,750.
