Ontario-based Porter Airlines has placed a firm order for 30 Embraer E195-E2 jets, with purchase rights for 50 more, to help it achieve its plan to expand services across North America . The aircraft order will be included in Embraer’s order backlog in the second quarter and would be worth US $ 5.82 billion at list price with all options exercised. The first delivery and the first commissioning are scheduled from the third quarter of 2022.

Porter Airlines will be the North American launch customer for the E195-E2, which can accommodate between 120 and 146 passengers (Porter’s layout plans will be unveiled in due course). The E2s will give Porter greater flexibility to introduce non-stop service in markets with relatively low passenger numbers, and to add frequencies on higher demand routes. The airline intends to deploy the aircraft to business and leisure destinations across Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and from Toronto Pearson International Airport. Porter says the investment and the routes could create up to 6,000 new jobs.
Michael Deluce, President and CEO of Porter Airlines said, “This is a defining moment in Porter’s history. Today we are laying the groundwork for a new, more comprehensive service for our customers, delivered in true Porter style and comfort. Embraer’s E2, with its spacious cabin, quiet operations and no central seating, delivers the refined and comfortable experience on which Porter has built its reputation for service and quality. Our customers will love the experience on this jet as much as we already do at Porter. “
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, added: “With this order for up to 80 of our largest aircraft, the E2 is making a spectacular debut in North America. As the quietest and most fuel efficient aircraft in the segment, the E195-E2 also delivers excellent economy performance that stands out. “
