Sampath Bank became the first bank in Sri Lanka to digitally present the ‘Man of the Match’ award during the recently hosted South Africa’s first ODI tour to Sri Lanka, offering a prize of Rs. 300,000 through its digital wallet very popular, Sampath WePay.

Sri Lankan cricketer Avishka Fernando, who was named Man of the Match, received this sum via a real-time electronic funds transfer, via Sampath WePay, during the presentation ceremony.

Sampath Bank is the co-sponsor of the South African tour in Sri Lanka. As part of the partnership, the bank is sponsoring the Man of the Match prize money, digitally transferring the amount to the winners via Sampath WePay.

This initiative is part of Sampath Bank’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of digital payment solutions such as Sampath WePay and drive their adoption in line with the Government and Central Bank’s vision for digital payments.

Sampath WePay serves as a one-stop digital wallet where users can store all types of financial instruments from local banks authorized by JustPay and conduct real-time online transactions. Continuing to transform the way Sri Lankans do their daily transactions, it also offers Social Share – the ability to transfer funds to any individual through online social messaging services such as WhatsApp, Viber, Messenger and Telegram – as well as via regular SMS, QR based payments, Sampath Bank and third party money transfers, bill payments, etc.
